Curtin Student Guild Successfully Advocates for Graduation Ceremony Procedure Change

The Guild’s student representatives have achieved a major victory in advocating for changes to the graduation ceremony. Guild representatives have successfully lobbied for students to have the option of using their preferred name to be called at graduation instead of their legal name.

This significant change will benefit not only the trans and gender diverse communities, but also those who have chosen to use a different name from the one on their birth certificate more broadly.

The Curtin Student Guild encourages all students to take advantage of this new option and use the name that best reflects their identity and sense of self at their graduation ceremony. We congratulate our Guild representatives on their successful advocacy efforts and look forward to further progress in promoting diversity and inclusion on campus.
