Church of Christ

Here you will find information about the visiting Church of Christ chaplain to Curtin University.

Welcome by Bentley Pastors Daron Crothers and Brian Durand

It is great to welcome you and let you know a little bit about our role at Curtin University. As chaplains for Churches of Christ, we find it a great privilege to journey with past and present students. We understand some of the challenges that students face and we have a heart to encourage you in matters of life and faith. We look forward to connecting with you to assist you in whatever way that we can.

Summary of beliefs

Churches of Christ have committed to the following statements which form our beliefs:

  • About essential beliefs — we have unity. We believe Biblical truths are non-negotiable! (e.g., Christ is the only way to knowing God and salvation).
  • About non-essentials beliefs — we have liberty. These are the things that are not essential for getting to heaven. (e.g., 2nd coming viewpoints, alcohol — abstinence versus moderation, etc).
  • About all our beliefs — we show Love because God is love. The greatest virtue is love. We are commanded to love because God has first loved us.
  • Our Centre is Christ and our Book is the Bible — The centrality of Christ is fundamental to Christian faith and doctrine. The Bible is primarily God's revelation to man is written form, which finds its fulfilment in Christ. Christ is God's ultimate revelation to man and our Christian faith is all about our relationship with God through Christ.
  • Christians only, but not the only Christians — We are commited to being known simply as Christians like the early followers of Christ. We recognise, though, that we are just a part of the universal church of Jesus Christ that He loved and gave Himself for. It is our desire to commit ourselves to the unity of God's people as Jesus prayed and longed for.
