Roman Catholic

Welcome to the Roman Catholic community at Curtin University.

Father Chris Alambe is the Catholic chaplain for Curtin University, appointed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. Fr. Chris has set down threefold purpose for his Catholic chaplaincy work in Curtin University, namely:

  1. To be available on rostered days for both students and staff of Curtin University for their Spiritual needs.
  2. To help educate and strengthen those interested on matters of Spirituality, Faith and Religion.
  3. To minister the Sacraments to the Roman Catholics at Curtin University and support the extension of this Sacramental life in the broader community at Curtin.

Fr. Chris was born in Western Kenya, where he studied and received his first BA in (Philosophy). He later went to South Africa in 1998 to study as a Mariannhill Missionary and there he got his BA in (Theology) in 2003. On 17th July 2004 Fr. Chris was ordained a Priest and worked as a Vocations Director for the Mariannhill Missionaries in East Africa. In 2006-2008 Fr. Chris went to work for three years in Witbank Diocese-South Africa.

Fr. Chris arrived in Australia in 2009 and was sent to work for more than two years in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kalgoorlie-WA. He was later appointed in June 2011 as a Parish Priest of St. Brigid’s Catholic Church in Midland where he worked almost three years before being appointed as a Catholic Chaplain at Curtin University as well as a Chaplain for the University of Western Australia (UWA). Fr Chris is currently the Parish Priest of Santa Clara Catholic Church in Bentley.

You do not have to belong to the Catholic Faith or to any Faith Tradition to call upon its services. The Chaplaincy respects and appreciates the rich diversity of human religious experience. It is a place within the Curtin University Community where questions of faith, spirituality, belief and life are taken seriously. Whatever your religious background, your cultural heritage or sexual orientation, you will find the Catholic Chaplaincy accepting, non judgmental and respectful of your unique life experience.
