Athina Hilman

Hi, My name is Athina Hilman and I am a third-year student studying Journalism and PR/Marketing. This September, I am running as an NUS delegate with Illuminate.

What is the NUS? The National Union of Students, or NUS, is the peak union body for students. The NUS delegates set the policies they believe the union should push. This is why YOU must vote for the right candidates that represent you as a student, and I am the best candidate for this role.

Curtin must have a strong representative to ensure the best decisions are made on behalf of Curtin students. What are some of the things I will fight for?

I want to fight to lower the age of independence so students under 21 can access Centrelink payments.

I want to end period poverty in university and ensure there are period products available to all students.

I want to ensure every student union in Australia receives at least 50% of SSAF funding so they can run autonomously without the university breathing down their necks.

And most of all, I want to position Curtin as a vibrant lively campus with accessible and affordable education.  ?

I truly love university and have immersed myself within the Curtin community. I am currently already part of the Guild as Vice President - Activities. In this role, I have provided a myriad of welfare events and activities for students, such as Pop Up Thrift Shop Market, Love Week and Stress Less Week. I have gotten to know so many students through the events I run on campus and hear their struggles. This is why I am running in this election.

My campus credentials includes being co-president of Newsspeak, a student journalism club in Western Australia where we regularly host student networking sessions. I have also been a New To Curtin mentor for the past years. I have advocated to improve the education delivery for the Faculty of Humanities through my role as the Head of the Student Consultative Committee and I also sit on the Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry (MCASi) Board. On top of this, I co-produced ‘Turning Point’, a Curtin University podcast dedicated to shining a spotlight on all things Humanities.

All these experiences have allowed me to help students whenever and wherever possible, as I am dedicated to helping as many students pursue their passions.

I am the best candidate for this position because I am determined, resilient, hard-working and friendly. I believe in inclusivity and collaborative work, and most importantly, I care. I care about student well-being. I care about our education, and most of all, I care about our student experience here at Curtin.

So, make sure you:
Vote [1] Athina Hilman for NUS Delegate!
Vote [1] Jasmyne Tweed for President!
Vote [1] Illuminate!
