International Student Visas 

The Australian Government is aware that students are affected by COVID-19 and have offered the following assistance in regards to Visas.

Extending Student Visa - $0
Students can apply for a Fee Waiver if they need to extend their student Visa.  
Follow the link and fill in the form before applying to extend your student visa.

COVID-19 Pandemic Event Visa
If you have finished your studies but cannot return to your home country because of COVID-19 restrictions you can apply for this visa at $0 cost.
Look for the ‘step by step guide’ on one of the tabs which will take you through what is needed.  You apply through your ImmiAccount.

Returning home voluntarily
If you wish to voluntarily return to your home country, the Homeward’s Assisted Returns Program provides students with assistance to return home voluntarily, including assistance with travel forms, organising travel arrangements, and financial assistance with travel related expenses. Students who are interested can contact the team via their website here or call them on 1300 094 663.

If you would like an interpreter to assist you with communicating either in-person or over-the-phone, Translating and Interpreting Services (TIS) provides free interpreting services to people with limited English language proficient. TIS services can be used for medical appointments, casework and emergency services, real estate agencies, local government authorities and trade unions. Contact TIS on 131 450 or via their website here.  

Financial Support

The Australian Government has given funds to the following organisations to help international students affected by COVID-19.  They are very understanding and helpful so if you need assistance get in touch with them. We recommend starting with the Australian Red Cross.

Emergency relief and casework support for people who are on temporary visas.

If you are staying at Unilodge or have a rental agreement in your name then you may be eligible for a grant up to $2,000.

Indian Society of Western Australia (ISWA), in an unprecented measure, has been joined by forty five (45) of its members associations in a joint appeal to support Indian origin people in the current COVID-19 situation.

Indian Student Support 
The Federation of Indian Associations of WA Inc. is inviting all Indian international students to join the below community group to ensure you’re supported during this time. If you are interested in joining, please visit the group page here.

African Student Support 
The Organisation of African Communities in WA Inc. are currently stationing food banks in various locations around Perth. If you or someone you know will benefit from this please contact the ASIWA Student Coordinator via asiwa@dept.oacwa.com.au or call them on 0413 121 842. 

Pakistani Student Support
The Pakistan Association of WA INC in collaboration with AICI has been providing free groceries to Pakistani students, students from other nationalities are also welcome. If you, or anyone you know requires support please visit their website and complete a registration form or contact Ali Mardan Shah at 0410 000 552 or Hassan Jahangir at 0452 011 653. 

Malaysian Student Support 
All Malaysian Students in Australia and New Zealand are invited to register with the Education Malaysia Australia's online registration system on their website here. This enables the EMA team to keep you informed on any relevant updates and provide support if you are in need.

The Multicultural Services Centre 
The Multicultural Services Centre (MSC) is running Happy Minds and Helping Hands workshops to raise awareness and prevention of self-harm and suicide and assisting in the creation of support groups and how to support, help or strengthen those who are going through a crisis. If you are interested in attending one of these workshops or want us to organise one for your community, please contact Nedzada Nadia Loncar, the Coordinator of Suicide Prevention and Intervention Project at nadia@mscwa.com.au
